Do come out and enjoy exploring the local history and quieter parts of Wessex by cycle. You don't need to belong to the CTC to ride with the Salisbury Section- just turn up with your bike (or unicycle / tricycle / recumbent), a spare inner tube, storm proof gear, sun tan lotion, money for food and some drink (water?) and food (dark chocolate?), maybe lights and enjoy the ride (adventure!) Sunday rides usually start at 9:00 a.m. from Salisbury Market Square. Hard Wednesday evening rides start at 7:30 p.m. from in front of the Guildhall in the market square.
How strenuous rides are expected to be, is given by one of the three terms: Easy, Medium, Hard. If tracks or bridleways might be used, then the term Tracks is added. However all such routes will be suitable for a touring bike. If you would like further details about any of the rides, email

SUNDAY 10th April (Easy) 9:00 Tisbury; a village that has everything; plaques, large yew tree, railway station etc.
SUNDAY 17th April (Medium) 9:00 Cranborne; and if fine, over Toyd Down to get there.

Future Rides:
This is where we are going to log suggestions for future rides.
SUNDAY 25th September 2011 (Easy ) 9:00 Breamore; via a round about route for a GRAND CTC meet at the last 2011 Breamore Steam Up .
Ride H1: Horton and Bishop Cannings; where there is a swing bring over the Avon and Kennet canal at SU043638.
Ride T1: Great Yews; last time we went here it snowed.
Ride H2: Treacle Jack; and the other three follies near Yeovil.
Meet at the Guildhall, Salisbury Market Square, at 7.30 p.m. (Except for July 6th) These rides are quite fast and not suitable for the inexperienced. They can finish quite late, especially when punctures and lighting problems arise. These Wednesday evening rides are especially recommended for Tricyclists! High powered rechargeable battery lights recommended. Don't forget your spare inner tubes.

Jack Riegen Memoirs
One of Salisbury's most experienced cyclists was Jack Riegen. He put pen to paper in April 1996, or is it finger to keyboard, to write up some of his rides. His great solo ride to and from London in 1920 now holds the record for how long it takes members to write up their rides, 76 years!
Jack lived in Quidhampton. In 1996 he could still be found riding his bike into Salisbury and back. His following articles should amuse you.
