Do come out and enjoy exploring the local history and quieter parts of Wessex by cycle. You don't need to belong to the CTC to ride with the Salisbury Section- just turn up with your bike (or unicycle / tricycle / recumbent), a spare inner tube, storm proof gear, sun tan lotion, money for food and some drink (water?) and food (dark chocolate?), maybe lights and enjoy the ride (adventure!) Sunday rides usually start at 9:00 a.m. from Salisbury Market Square. Hard Wednesday evening rides start at 7:30 p.m. from in front of the Guildhall in the market square.
How strenuous rides are expected to be, is given by one of the three terms: Easy, Medium, Hard. If tracks or bridleways might be used, then the term Tracks is added. However all such routes will be suitable for a touring bike. If you would like further details about any of the rides, email
Alan Clarke(click here)
or ring 01722 322188 or email

RIDE MOBILE NUMBER 07947 711966

If you participate in any ride listed on these pages, you must consider that you are on a private cycle ride with friends and that you are responsible for your own safety and roadcraft. The Cyclists Touring Club, its Officers, Committee members, servants or agents shall not be liable for any expense, loss, claim or proceedings in respect of personal injury, death or disease to any person or loss or damage to any property from whatsoever nature and whether or not due to any negligence of the Cyclists Touring Club, its Officers, Committee members, servants or Agents.

Ron Trill Memoirs
The late Ron Trill was a Wessex CTC man for many decades. He was persuaded to write up his cycling memoirs for posterity. Many of these are reproduced here. I am sure that on reading them you will get a feel for what cycle touring is about. Just click on the titles below.

Jack Riegen Memoirs
One of Salisbury's most experienced cyclists was Jack Riegen. He put pen to paper in April 1996, or is it finger to keyboard, to write up some of his rides. His great solo ride to and from London in 1920 now holds the record for how long it takes members to write up their rides, 76 years!
Jack lived in Quidhampton. In 1996 he could still be found riding his bike into Salisbury and back. His following articles should amuse you.
